The Huawei Sound X is a high-end wireless speaker co-designed with Devialet, a French hi-fi manufacturer. It makes extensive use of Devialet audio technology such as the brand’s low-distortion Push-Push woofer design and SAM (Speaker Active Matching) optimization, both of which are generally found on much more expensive devices. It also has a stronger bass than other all-in-one speakers with similar specifications. Lets see some of the best features offered by Huawei Sound X.
Design
The Huawei Sound X is a high-end Bluetooth speaker with a lot of style. It has a stylish look thanks to an impact-resistant polycarbonate cabinet with a mirror-like finish. Six speakers are housed in the cabinet: two subwoofers and six full-range drivers/tweeters.
The trendy smart speaker aesthetic is well captured in this black tapered-edged cylinder. Its design is similar to that of a HomePod, but its finish is more flamboyant: it’s only material-covered across the bottom third, with the top two thirds displaying a glossy finish with two open ports that allow sound to travel 360 degrees.
There are no physical inputs because this is a completely wireless device. Although the power output is rated at 65W, it boasts a reported 144W of overall transient power – which, as we’ll see, may sound quite aggressive.
Display
A touch-control panel is installed in a floating circular shape on the top. It’s reactive to touch, but it just handles volume up, volume down, pairing, and mute. You can’t change settings or anything because there’s no app on the Play Store.
You may, however, control them via the interface on your Bluetooth-enabled device. There’s only Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity, plus NFC for quick connecting if you want it, which works nicely and doesn’t fade out over time.
Audio
The Huawei Sound X has received Hi-Res Audio certification. The sound quality is on par with CD quality with aptX on board, at 16-bit 44.1kHz. The Sound X looks to have been calibrated for dance and Europop – its happy place is Ibiza. Deep throbbing bass tones and toppy repeating rhythms are favorites of this speaker.
The Sound X’s dual-subwoofer architecture delivers plenty of wallop. It can go as low as 40 Hz, which is remarkable for a Bluetooth speaker of this size, even one with Hi-Fi ambitions, and the drivers that circle the base create a realistic 360-degree soundstage. Regardless of where you listen in the room, the output sounds the same.
To put it another way, the Sound X is loud and beautifully dynamic. Its bass performance isn’t on a shoestring budget.
End Note
Huawei claims that the Sound X allows you to “party anytime, anyplace.” It boasts a lot of volume for its size, a lot of punch, a lot of low-end extension, and complete 360° reproduction. It does, however, have certain shortcomings, the most notable of which is the roughness of its high midrange frequencies at high levels.
A lack of low midrange frequencies also affects the overall tone balance, resulting in a slightly nasal sound. In total, the Huawei Sound X offers crisp and precise treble, good attack for high-pitched instruments, and very few temporal artifacts, in addition to the attributes described above.
